Family allowance

The child benefit [Kindergeld] contributes on average to one fifth of the monthly student income. It is worthwhile for you or your parents to check whether you are entitled to recieve and to apply for it.

Your parents are usually entitled to recieve child benefit until you reach the age of 25 and if your parents are residents or permanent residents in Germany. In addition, there are other factors justifying a claim for child benefit. Your educational status such as an interruption in your studies can also affect your entitlement to child benefit.
