Studying with health restrictions

Studying with health restrictions is, when it comes to studying and life conditions at the university, a very complex matter. Your Studentenwerk Halle endeavours, together with the universities, to provide with comprehensive help right from the beginning. This can only work effectively when you come up to us already before the beginning of your studies, for example with questions about accomodation for disabled persons in a dorm. We offer wheelchair accessible dorms in Halle, mersbeurg, Dessau and Bernburg.

In case you recieve BAföG:

There are also special features to consider when applying for BAföG in the case of studying with health restrictions:

  • The so-called hardship allowance is the granting of an additional allowance from the income of the parent or spouse.
  • In the case of disability, the BAföG office may, at the request of the applicant, permit the submission of the certificate of achievement, which normally has to be completed by the end of the 4th semester at a later date.
  • In the case of a delay of the study period, for which a disability is the cause, a grant beyond the maximum funding period may be granted upon request.
  • Support is also provided for up to three months if students are unable to attend training due to illness.

The following aplies in all cases: your personal situation is decisive and can only be evaluated in the social counseling directly in the BAföG office.
